Cyprus inflation unchanged at 1.5 percent in March

NICOSIA, Cyprus: Consumer prices in Cyprus rose by 1.5 percent on the year in March, unchanged from February's rate, the statistics service said Thursday.

Food and beverages led the increase with a 5.6 percent jump while health and education recorded a 5.4 and 4.9 percent increase respectively.

The transport sector, however, posted a 2.7 decline.

On a month-on-month basis, consumer prices rose 1.2 percent in March from February, mainly due to higher prices for clothing and footwear following the end of winter sales. Petroleum products, some fresh fruit and poultry also rose, the service said.
